Last Sunday's Wizz Jones gig was one of the best nights I've ever put on. Not only did Wizz play superbly - first set solo, second set joined by his son Simeon (sax, harmonica, flute) who complimented him beautifully, adding a pastoral late summer feel to the music on a warm night - but the Ritzy was packed and Norman and Ali were guest DJs, spinning music linked with Wizz.

This month I have Soulahula on. They're a country soul trio who will be launching their new album You & Me at the Ritzy. Soulahula are lead by Sam Ford and Trudi Green, a couple I like to describe as "the white Ike & Tina (without the drugs and madness - or fame and money, for that matter). They are a great live band and Ford is a very strong songwriter.

I first got to know Sam & Trudi in New Zealand when they were leading bands there. Trudi is originally from Greenwich and they shifted back here to help care for her elderly parents, still performing - the band's magnificent guitarist, Jero, shifted to London at the same time - and working on new material. Zee of this parish once said to me "Trui Green? I went to school with her. We all fancied her!" So, Zee, if you fancy coming along to DJ a few tunes that you might have listened to back in those days then please do. And everyone else please do join us - a night at the Ritzy always improves when I see your smiling faces!

Just pushing forward as a reminder it's this Sunday@Ritzy. Soulahula write and perform really strong country soul tunes that I like to think Charlie would have enjoyed had he lived to hear them. Their lead guitarist is also a very tasty player. And Zee once went to school with the singer. What else do you need to know? Come on down!
