Part of Snapshots Part 11
Rich Mix celebrates the spirit of protest that’s always been at the heart of East London, with a night of music to stir your consciousness and move your feet.
Headliners Captain Ska are the UK’s leading protest and party band. Their ska-ed up viral hit “Liar Liar” from a couple of Christmases ago, pointed the finger at the Coalition’s conmen, their latest single “What’s the Point of Nick Clegg?” asks a question to which there is no known answer. Live, this 7-piece powerhouse of a band offer a brassy, goodtime combination of ska, soul, reggae, hip-hop and Latin flavours.
Support comes from Davey Moss who, armed with just a guitar and a sampler, builds hypnotic layers of blues, electronica, dub, jazz and more, over which he sings beautiful songs, sometimes personal, sometimes political.
On the decks DJ Jamie Renton (Chilli Fried/Shout Collective) will be spinning a dancefloor friendly selection of protest tunes from around the globe and across the decades.
Part of Snapshots, Rich Mix’s bite-sized festival in 13 parts celebrating East London in its Olympic year.
