I know, it's happened more than once that - I have had someone called to my attention on the forum. Then, I have gone to look them up in order to add them to the birthday list only to discover they have died, quite recently. It's an odd feeling and my urge has been to enter the person.

updated to acknowledge the passing of Bobby Charles and Kate McGarrigle (both of whom were already in the list, but Judith don't hesitate to add the recently departed even if they were not previously listed)

I see these are still to be entered in the master list. Dan Seals (7, though Wikipedia says 8) died on March 25 last year.

A few late additions.
3: 1949 - Linda Hargrove (Jacksonville, Florida)
3: 1942 - Kenny Wertz (Washington D.C.) A later Burrito
3: 1962 - Clint Patrick Black pka Clint Black (Long Branch, New Jersey)
5: 1933 - Claude King (Keithville, nr. Shreveport, Louisiana)
5: 1939 - Brian Golbey (Pycombe, Sussex, UK)
7: 1962 - Troyal Garth Brooks pka Garth Brooks (Tulsa, Oklahoma)
7: 1948 - Dan Seals (McCamey, Texas)
14: 1951 - Michael Doucet (Scott, Louisiana)
17: 1969 - John Randall Stewart pka Jon Randall (Dallas, Texas)
23: 1946 - Rusty Young (Long Beach, California) Poco pedal steel player

February 1 would have been the birthday of Mary Jane DeZurik (1917-1981). I’ve located a little more accurately Michael Doucet’s (14) birthplace; Scott is about a 15-minute drive from Lafayette, and I remember it having a very nice dancehall.

Wow. Thanks John and Mike. I'll enter these this evening.

Later that same evening...I've entered John and Mike's additions to the main list.

Mike, had you intended for me to enter Mary DeZurik's name on the list? I didn't as I wasn't certain. Let me know if I should put her on the list.

No, Judith, that was just for interest. Sister Caroline (a December birthday, I think) appears to be still alive. One of the frustrations of researching birthdays is coming across people who have long since passed away but would have held a place of honour in the list had they survived, and sometimes I feel they deserve a mention anyway. Another such was Slim Willet, a December 1 birthday who I would have written up had the Great SOTW Crash not intervened. Slim's one famous composition has its own entry on Wikipedia. I was reminded of him again two days ago when my sister was driving me to London Airport and we listened to Jimmie Dale Gilmore singing it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don't_Let_ ... _Your_Eyes
Coincidentally, Jimmie Dale turned up again on my flight to Hong Kong (from one of whose splendid public libraries I'm posting this), doing a sepulchral version of Mack the Knife over the closing scene of Un Prophète.

Enough rambling. Some February passings you might enter:
Kate McGarrigle (6) died January 18, 2010
Dan Seals (7, but Wikipedia says 8) died March 25, 2009
Hank Locklin (18, but Wiki says 15) died March 8, 2009

I was intending to post the Dezurik sisters on YouTube recommendations for Caroline's December birthday, had the site not gone AWOL again. I did however find references in more than one place, to Caroline having passed away on 16 March last year, although I couldn't find any press reports to confirm this. Her passing is not noted on wikipedia.

Yes, I agree. It does give pause. An example in particular - when I was researching names from the incredible 'Take Me To The River' compilation. And, as far as a post on YouTube to give mention, nonexistent.

I will enter the February passings you listed. Enjoy the library!

I think, given that the poster is her grandson, I will enter March 16, 2009. Reading the comments on the Edith Frost site, it was sad to read that the man (Don Gill, her son and said grandson's father - see 23 Nov 2003 and 23 Jan 2003 posts) who had been posting information on the DeZurik sisters had also died in 2009 and that Carolyn's husband, Rusty had passed the year before.

Mike, should I check out the discrepancies in the above birthdates? The error could be on our list, however wikipedia has been incorrect at times.

Dan Seals fan site says date of birth the 8th as do several of his obituaries (though some might be quoting wikipedia info)
Hank Locklin -http://www.hanklocklin.com/history.html states 15 Feb.

Later Edit - given the information, I have changed Dan Seals birthdate on our main list to 8 Feb and Hank Locklin to 15 Feb. If someone has information indicating these (or any other) dates are incorrect, please inform.

I'm willing to stand (or preferably sit) corrected. I know that at least one of my main sources, Bill's Country Calendar, is not 100% reliable. Bill seems like a great chap with his country heart in the right place (or perhaps located just slightly to the right of it), but I've occasionally had to revise his information. For example, I noticed he confuses the two Tracy Nelsons, the Mother Earth one and Rick's daughter.
