The Motown singer Bobby Taylor has died. aged 83.

His group Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers (including Tommy Chong, later of Cheech and ...) had a 1968 #5 r&b hit 'Does Your Mama Know About Me'. Subsequent releases were recorded by Bobby without the Vancouvers, although the group's credit remained for the next two singles including 'Malinda', written & produced by Smokey Robinson with Al Cleveland & Terry Johnson

Bobby was responsible for the Jackson 5 signing to Motown after he saw them open a show he was appearing on in Chicago - he produced their earliest recordings for the label - most of their first LP and the B-side of 'I Want You Back', a version of Smokey's 'Who's Lovin' You' - it now appears to be the best known recording of the song which had first appeared on the B-side of 'Shop Around' by the Miracles in 1960
