The Motown songwriter and (uncredited) producer Sylvia Moy passed away on Saturday, aged 78.

In 1965 when Motown were threatening to drop Stevie Wonder following a few not very successful releases, Sylvia volunteered to work with him - she was told “if you get a hit, we’ll keep him - if not, we’ll let him go” - ‘Uptight (Everything’s Alright)’ - song credited to Sylvia & Stevie with the producer Hank Cosby - became an R&B #1 (Pop #3), and she continued to work with Stevie on many of his hits over the next four years.

She also co-wrote songs for other Motown acts including Martha & the Vandellas; Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston; the Velvelettes; and the Isley Brothers
