The Pan Pipes are calling....

When I consider my early world music experiences, I always think of the first time I saw the Bhundu Boys live as the most significant one, but I've forgotten about the Bolivian music specialists Rumillajta, who, as they were based in the west couintry at the time, I saw many times in the late 70s/early 80s.

I have to admit that 'music of the Andes' sounds a bit twee these days. Has the genre been subsumed into the cloying world of new age music and 'Incantation's Greatest Hits' CDs? Or are there exciting new bands out there re-interpreting and re-invigorating traditional Bolivian music, that I don't know about?

Black Music in Praise of Oxalá and Other Gods
Some mind-warping fusion of African and Amerindian music going on here. The percussion of the Colombian Guapi on side 2 is staggering. A must for any devotee of African percussion I think. This album is guaranteed 100% twee free.
