The big question for me is: why did he restrict himself to just 5 albums when his premise could be applied to hundreds?

Good point Rob, but perhaps that's the very reason. Set a limit when you start, because once you get into gear...!

You set five - a couple of which are guaranteed to be near perfect in many others' eyes - and you let the arguments commence on The Grauniad webpage, thus generating more money than the print copy.

PS could you tell me what 'pigecatons' means, please?
