Keep the faith there, allears! At one time it certainly would have been mine!

Haha! Thank you, Adam !

It's rather contrary to the spirit of your thread, but if I were allowed second thoughts, I might go for Graceland, which introduced me to the joys of world music. But that's yet another American album :(

What do you think your second choice might be?

My second choice? "Velvet Underground Live 1969" - no question. Which is MORE Americana!

Wait a minute. This is all getting out of hand. Adam's original notion that we go off the top of our heads to nominate one album begins to become something more considered as we start to get into second best albums or non american records. Nominating one record off the top of your head cannot really stand you up for ridicule but a top ten or twenty, if it's anything like mine, a ragbag of sentiment, uncontrollable physical delight, and intellectual pretence, surely will. I think I may, in a spirit of fun, be prepared to make a list. See you back here tomorrow.

Yes, Syd is a lot louder on the mono! It always makes me smile to think how the dreaded "Dark Side Of The Moon" was, for many years, the benchmark of hi-fi, when in fact they got a much better sound out of four track mono several years previous.

So here we are. The morning has arrived. I've had a good old think and I find myself listless. It's impossible to fulfill the brief I set myself, a top ten/twenty favorite albums. Here's my best shot -

Twelve old albums that won't leave me alone - stuff I maybe ought to have grown out of by now. Excuse my self indulgence.

Exile On Main Street, Safe As Milk, Back Door, Quicksilver Messenger Service (1st lp), Forever Changes (Love), Caught Up (Millie Jackson), Muddy Waters at Newport, The Inflated Tear (Roland Kirk), Kate & Anna Mc Garrigle (1st lp), Songs For A Tailor (Jack Bruce), This Was (Jethro Tull), Gris Gris (Dr .John)

For a non-American album: Nic Jones - "Penguin Eggs".

I surprised myself even, but this was the first that came to mind (in fact, shouted at me).
