tis that day of the seasons in the hindi world apparently. Holi is celebrated at the approach of vernal equinox, on the Phalguna Purnima (Full Moon). sez wikipedia
And having just looked up via an earlier connection, possibly, but not confirmed, where 'our' word hooley comes from

Oh yes! that colourful festival whizzed by in the cloudy gray final whimper of this winter. I have actually been involved with setting up a few all-family holi parties here. Alas, we've had to organise them indoors, so the kids were forbidden to throw water balloons around like they would do outdoors.

Holi seems to be also an almost obligatory setting for any playfully romantic song & dance scene in whatever romantic drama/comedy the Hindi film industry is churning out.

My wife also pointed out that "bhang lassi" is a popular holi drink. Hence the drunken, unruly joyfulness linked to Holi, with all that colour splashing and other goings on.

The rather good Indian magazine Outlook publishes every year a Holi playlist of the best of such scenes. This time they present us a Best of the last five decades. ... st/3505/12
