Has anyone an opinion as to relative virtues of these services for the kind of music we discuss on this forum?

I find Spotify very useful. After reading John's note on Wendy Rene I found her music on Spotify. I regularly use it to listen to artists talked about in the paper/magazines. Never even heard of Deezer!

Deezer is a French owned service - it quotes:
"As of April 2014, the catalogue provided access to approximately 30 million songs via searching for artists, albums, titles, labels, and genres, and gave users access to tracks from many major and independent labels. " and "As of September 2013 the service is available in 182 countries".

I was wondering that kind of coverage it might have a catalogue that would give me access to what in the uk would be historic or obscure.

In contrast Spotify is available in 58 countries (none in Africa). "As of December 2012, the catalogue provided access to approximately 20 million songs".

I am conducting simple trials.
Jonah Moyo Deezer has 3 albums and Spotify 1
Bobby Charles Deezer 3 Spotify 1
Arthur Alexander Deezer3 spotify 3
for Nelson Cavaquinho Deezer 6 albums Spotify 1
Early Music Consort Deezer 3 Spotify 3
Wganda Kenya: Deezer 5 tracks Spotify 3
Kassav' Deezer 2 different greatest hits and Spotify 12
Copper family: Deezer 3 Albums Spotify 1

Crasdant Deezer 3 albums Spotify 3

Parti Cwt Lloi Deezer 3 tracks Spotify 0

Llio Rhyderch Deezer 2 tracks Spotify 0
( Welsh Music seems to get a raw deal other than 9Bach and Crasdant)

I tried for Jesse Winchester's "How far to the Horizon" - deezer (which has 6JW albums) does not have Learn to Love it . I have discovered a great version from Christene Collister this way. Both services offer this one but not JW's original. Clearly neither Bearsville nor Ace catalogue present?????

Deezer seems to come out best on most tests thus far ( unless you particularly want Zukous ). Anyway I will continue my search. I would appreciate updates from others who might experiment.
