As many of you know, I have a Somali daughter-in-law and Anglo-Somali grandchildren, so I keep a close eye on the Somali music scene in the UK.

Most of it is very poor stuff, cheesy singers with horrible backing tracks. But this guy, who has a full band, is really good:

like that!
The phrase anglo-somali makes me think of the wonderful & much missed Poly Styrene (Marianne Elliott-Said)

Thanks for that, Nigel. I really enjoyed them. I hope they find an audience.

Also mentioned as a counter example in one of those discussions where people were going "I'll tell you wot guv, there's no good world music any more. Not like when I was a nipper" (or words to that effect) although I can't find it fore the minute.

He and the band really cook live and he's on my list of people to try and organise a gig with (we recently bumped into each other outside Sainsburys in Ladbroke Grove and he seemed keen on the idea).
