You know on the telly when someone has agreed to do an interview and, on being asked the first question says, "Words can't describe it..." That. No point in posting this really Rob but......just to say...I'm speechless.

Always loved that track, Rob, teetering as it is on the brink of collapsing under the weight of its own wry, postmodern knowingness, but had never seen the video before. And it is.......apposite.

Wish I'd said that now.

Truth be told, I know this because it used to get played a lot in a gym class that I used to attend, and I learned to love it. Definitely Friday-night-the-weekend-starts-here music in my book.

Let me know when you have, Will. Maybe we can set up a study group.

And in the meantime ...... it's THE FIVE STAIR STEPS!!!!

Coincidental to this weekend's early posts. Geoff Barker's Rock'n'Roll Party (what it says on the tin) tonight on BBC Radio Devon has an hour dedicated to Cats and Dogs in R'n'R.
(18.30 -20.30). Cold beer, warm patio, nice party.

Seeing as Will's started early, it would be rude not to join in.

I'm going for all-singing, all-dancing 60s selections, starting off with this slice of beat-tastic Northern soul from Mickey Lee Lane: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UPUIhfMeb8;

Next up, a youthful Fela Kuti, before the weed took it's toll ands the song lengths stretched to eternity. It's highlife time (it's got the beat and it's got the heat) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34hg9Ir8efs

Finally, some prime Jamaican RnB (in the old and proper sense) from Laurel Aitken: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeDdaYhyLk0

Hope you cats have a groovy weekend

Hey you guys, every time the youtube music starts an ad comes up for resarch into statins! Something more sedate may assist the researchers with a less excited bunch of partcipants!!

Late to the party again ...

(This is too groovy for Youtube, you'll have to listen via Grooveshark, whatever that is.)

(And I think Mr Joe Boyd, who has been known to post here in the past, deserves a shout out for producing this particular gem.)

Great stuff Rob. Maybe a good little "Let's get this show on the road" opener for The Jools Holland Band ?

Apologies for the late start to the weekend. I was too busy feeling sorry for myself following a trip to the dentist yesterday. hopefully I can make up for my tardiness with the high quality of my weekend-starting selections.

First up, Carl Lester & the Showstoppers with some sock it 'em New Breed Rhythm n Blues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSUztqCMWEQ

Next up, the older boys in the sixth form common room may wish to snort patchouli oil off their greatcoats (have I got that right?) in preparation for the shock of something that is both new and foreign. The glorious sunshiney Saturday morning Congo-Cuban sound of Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIrFYpXLhYM

Finally, to redress the balance, white men with guitars (and other stringed things) + some trippy visuals!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDbylmeOdaY

I can't believe Osibisa's Sunshine Day hasn't featured on this thread before now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeH3OdgGHso

Lonesome Sundown - I'm Gonna Stick to You Baby (as recently discovered by me on Ace's new compilation Bluesin' on the Bayou-Rough and Tough:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcXskZOtjU0
