River Deep Mountain High

This week 6Music has provided me with a musical experience which plumbed the depths and another which took me on a high. The low was Spiritualized on Gideon Coe, recorded live somewhere or other in 2007, they massacred 'Amen', then two more 'spiritual' songs. Dreadful, it sounded like a failed kareoke at an Alpha course.
Then back to the heights, this morning on Cerys, Aziz Brahim did three songs live, truely soulful; wonderful. Jamie is so right about her.

And next week Cerys is playing an interview she recorded with Allen Toussaint, which apparently includes some discussion of how he likes his name pronounced. Which would have settled some arguments here a few tears back.

And speaking of "River Deep.....", I reckon it contains one of the oddest similes for a song...."like a schoolboy loves his pie". Though I'm sure there are plenty of odder ones.

It's actually an occasionally used blues couplet, most famously used in St. Louis Blues.
