A revival of my once regular look at the WMCE chart:

What do we think? Anybody got anything to say about any of this? Any essential purchases in that lot?

(Chris - is that 'something' enough for you?)

The Aziza Brahim album sitting pretty at the top of the chart is perhaps my favourite of the year so far. Desert blues delivered with passion and poise. Here's a taste: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-_i0if61lA

She's playing in London tomorrow night. I'm rather excited.

I saw Melingo at the Purcel rooms a couple of weeks ago. He was excellent as was his band. If that show was anything to go on, his album should certainly be worth a listen.
Unlike the folk at Songlines I think Tinariwen's new album is excellent. Also it's caught the attention of a number of people who are not the usual suspects; which is no bad thing.
I'm looking forward to other peoples thought on the chart.
Thanks Rob.
Aly

Mmm... the Melingo album was one I was particularly interested in. Thanks for the input Ali, I'll investigate further.

In other news, young Mr Howard Male was giving the thumbs up, elsewhere, to the new Meta Meta album. It's pretty potent stuff:

Yes, I picked up on the Meta Meta album via Howard, it really is something special. One of this year's standouts
