And maybe that was the year I shared a slightly naughty Sunday afternoon at the Hammersmith Odeon with Millie Jackson. Aah, those were the days (I think).

Wow! I used to listen to Honky Tonk and I hardly thought I missed a week, but I don't remember either BB or Muddy livening up a Sunday lunchtime.....Dang me!

The week I was in the studio Champion Jack was supposed to pitch up, but he didn't.

I was in the right place but it must've bin the wrong time.

Mention of George Thorogood and The Destroyers reminds me of the one time I really thought Charlie was going to explode with rage. He had them in the studio one Sunday and those guys were so out-of-control on something or other....gave him a hard time.

I never kept a diary. Only thing I know I saw in 1978 was Ornette Coleman, Ralph Towner, Pat Metheney, and John Stevens and Trevor Watts among others at the late, much lamented, Bracknell Jazz Festival.

I somehow seem to have missed those too.

Didn't Charlie mention at one point that George had fallen asleep?

1978 was a very odd year for me. Being a camp follower and sounding board for the Resistance I probably saw them about 17 times, they had loads of gigs once they had the single deal with Phonogram. But who else? Kevin Coyne at the Nashville, Phil Rambow at the Rock Garden, the RAR thing at Victoria Park, the Clash probably somewhere, Magazine at Newcastle Uni, Black Slate at the 100 Club, the second RAR thing at Brockwell Park, Tapper Zukie in Manchester, Wayne County both at Eric's and Bedford College...lots and lots of good gigs but the fact I'm having to dredge my memory banks seems to indicate nothing utterly unforgettable...maybe something will come back later..

Does anybody recall Anthony Wall's wonderful 1980 BBC2 "All Across The USA: The Story of the Cajuns and their music"? Sonet had been knocking out LPs by Dopsie, Nathan Abshire, Balfa Brothers, Austin Pitre, Don Moucette and others as if there was no tomorrow.
