Thanks for the welcome. The JBs were named by and for the ever modest James Brown, as with the non-sexistly named Raelettes and Mr Charles, both had changing lineups.
There are those named after a place, MGs (pragmatic?) MC5 etc, but BeeGees and Abba are acronyms (he said pedantically).

Hello Ali, Imagine The Bee Gees of all topics to have dragged you here. Now, to out-pedant you, I throw in the useless but accurate information that The MC5 weren't the first by that name. The EmCee 5 were the Newcastle jazz quintet headed up by Mike Carr the keyboard player and Alan Price mentor, from whose initials came the group's name.
