Eric Clapton on Hendrix's death

I'd not seen this footage before. I suspect it's an offcut from the Joe Boyd Hendrix documentary. Clapton is clearly strung out so I'd date it around 1973. It has the ring of truth to it, no?

It has the ring of truth - but at least part of it is not true.

Clapton says he saw Hendrix in a box at the Lyceum during the Sly & The Family Stone gig but couldn't get to him to give him the guitar. Hendrix's movements on his last night on earth are well documented and he did not attend the gig.

Clapton tells the same story in his autobiography, but corrects the version he tells in the filmed interview above. Instead of claiming he saw Hendrix that night, he writes that he took the left-handed Strat along to the Lyceum hoping to see Hendrix and give it to him, but that he didn't show up.
