Couldn't find the Nov 2008 story on this photo here at SotW, so in the very unlikely case it ain't already posted (I'm guessing search term "Johnny Shines" wasn't mentioned in the post, which I'm fairly sure I remember):

The truly hard core blues fanatics on F***book are pretty unanimous in thinking it ain't him. I merely present information.

For myself, my head says it might be him, but my heart says it isn't.

(I remember an enjoyable story about some wag claiming to have found a film clip of Johnson performing and putting it up on eBay. The bidding had already got to over $1,500,000 when he was forced to admit it was a scam. Apparently, the highest bidder was a fellow named Robert Plant.)

I'm sure that Dylan mentions, in "Chronicles", watching a film of Robert Johnson. I can't be bothered to scour through it to see what he says - i might come across the bit about sharing a crate of Guinness with Bono. Or was it Ramblin' Jack?

This has cropped up here before I think.

Bob wrote -

"More than thirty years later, I would see Johnson for myself in eight seconds’ worth of 8-millimeter film shot in Ruleville, Mississippi, on a brightly lit afternoon street by some Germans in the late ’30s. Some people questioned whether it was really him, but slowing the eight seconds down so it was more like eighty seconds, you can see that it really is Robert Johnson, has to be—couldn’t be anyone else."

others thought differently -

I think somebody somewhere in the links mentions this 1991 Channel 4 documentary, which I'd very much like to see, even without any film of RJ himself.

Gratuitous name drop: John Hammond Jr. autographed a cassette for me at the Hong Kong Jazz Club in 1992.
