Orchids!

Never mind the arhidia feel the quality. Here is one of my latest acquisitions:-

At 10.90 euros + carriage it was a bargain. On this occasion I used http://www.musical.gr, a family firm based in Patra. I have dealt with both Fotis Fokas (the boss) and his son Chrysanthos and both have been most helpful and speak English. Another potential source of Greek artefacts in the wake of the loss of Trehantiri.

Enjoyed all your vids Neill and your Shilling for a tanner line :D
I've been wanting to find some top notch Greek tunes but didn't know where to start til now.

This girl has a cracking voice, Jenny Vanou with "A Thousand Nights":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=en ... 570gYL96Xo

and a bit more up to date version here of "What did I do and you’re Drinking." Not sure which I like the most..the singer or the song, so it must be both:
Melina Aslanidou

Like this too: Haris Alexiou - Apopse thelo na pio

ah, the 'divine Haroula' (with "Tonight I Want to Drink") no doubt Phil the Greek will bestow his blessings and beneficence on this one...

...& that Jenny Vanou is a real find!

Spookily, earlier today I was going to post some clips from either Viky Mosholiou or Tzeni Vanou. I chose the former, but lets move on to a bit of latter......

I've not heard that particular track before, so thanks Willy. Pretty good.

Here's my favourite Tzeni/Jenny Vanou track: "S'Agapo". I've been trying to find this on CD for the past two years with no success. There is a remake, which is dire. And there is another track called "S'Agapo, S'agapo", which is double dire. But this version feels like some lost early Sixties pop-soul classic.

She can be very middle-of-the-road (even for me!). But there are a few another Tzeni favourites of mine. How about "I Sklava"?

I've just played that lovely Haris Alexiou lovely track. thanks Willy. Which reminds me of another of my Holy Grail I-just-can't find-it-on-CD tracks. Haris's version of "Maria me ta kitrina", which I think was recorded early in her career. I've heard others do the song, but none with that bouncy poptasticness.

Greek and Turkish music thread

Postby Philellinas » Wed Jul 11, 2012 8:53 am

Here's a new name to conjure with and trip over: Anastasia Hadziapostolidou.

I expect if she makes it she'll be known as Anastasia in some quarters.

Did somebody mention Haroula? Here is a modern-day classic from a fantastic album:-

And here is a Haroula/Sezen Aksu collaboration which must have been posted before somewhere on this forum but just in case...:-

That's very good indeed. The overly wholegrainy women's choir at the beginning gives way to a beauty of a song after a minute or so - that bagpiping is spine-tugging & gut-tingling stuff, as is Ana's vocal

I bring you the Bees ("melisses" in the vernacular) but maybe not the bee's knees:-

This track was included in a collection of summer hits 2012 and the band seems to be extremely popular, probably with the yoof. This is the kind of Greek music I am missing. Is there anything to like?

Kastamou claimed:

Hmmph! Repetitive, shallow pop, with a blatant use of attractive women in skimpy clothing, and a fat man rapping near the end. Rather good, I thought!

And, at the other end of the scale, I rather liked Anastasia, as she is known in these quarters (I attempted to pronounce that surname, but my tongue ended up in a granny knot).

Here's my latest Greeky offering. Nikos Papazoglou doing something else that I can't pronounce.

Liked that Gordon - & here's Ismail Y K with his family doing something a bit less shallow - he's a huge star in Germany I believe - he does a lot of rap & romantic ballads as well as the (I believe) firmly tongue in cheek pop numbers!

He has me dancing anyway :-)
